Shokku Ramen lives up to its name in the heart of Chinatown with walls plastered with manga panels, Howl's Moving Castle flickering on the TV, and a playlist bouncing from Destiny's Child's "Emotion" to anime OSTs. Open kitchen pumps out that instant umami fog the second you step in, dark wood booths and wabi-sabi accents giving it a cozy, lived-in Tokyo den vibe despite the 24/7 grind. Seven wall booths (mix of deuces and four-tops), eight bar seats, six open tables up front; compact but efficient. We were greeted and seated in under 2 minutes; server Doutzahn was polite, on-point, and had our orders out fast.

Started with the Garlic Butter Mushrooms, the online reviews nailed it. Sautéed mushrooms swimming in garlicky butter, topped with crunchy roasted garlic flakes and a hit of bright green onion for color and pop. Tender, not greasy, with that satisfying textural contrast; the garlic depth elevates it from side to star. Gone before the ramen hit the table.
Two bowls to split:
Surf and Turf Ramen (medium hot spice, ~$20) Landed in a spotless white bowl, sliced eggs showing off their perfect orange yolks like jewels. First whiff is straight tempura batter…. crispy, buttery shrimp calling your name. House-made tori chicken broth is light yet creamy, laced with ginger butter, white pepper, parsley, carrots, and a slick of garlic oil; green onions add that fresh bite. Two tempura shrimp pieces are flawless, golden, non-greasy, exploding with flavor. The NY strip, though? Quarter-inch thick, cooked medium-well and a touch chewy (personal miss for me—rarer next time). Curly yellow noodles are tender but springy, holding the broth without sogginess. Spice came on the side: green kappah paste (yuzu kosho, wasabi, serrano)… for reference it was a mild New Mexico-style jalapeño heat that builds gently without overwhelming. Eggs were the MVP: exceptionally marinated with salt-garlic notes, creamy and spot-on.Loved them, seriously loved them!
Create Your Own Ramen (tori broth, yellow noodles, mushrooms, bean sprouts, green onions, "just right" spice, ~$16) Custom builds are Shokku's flex.Ours arrived balanced and pretty, fried onions scattered for crunch and visual flair. Same light-creamy tori base as the surf, but dialed back to let toppings shine; broth clings beautifully to the chewy, al dente curly noodles without weighing them down. Mushrooms and sprouts add earthiness and snap, green onions keep it fresh with portions spot-on, not stingy. Spice in a side cup again (chili-forward, "just right" level), but easy to portion. Temp was ideal: hot enough to steam but not scalding. Straightforward, satisfying.Proof the DIY shines when you keep it simple.

Verdict: Shokku's the 24/7 anime-fueled beast of Vegas ramen: bold spice challenges for thrill-seekers (up to 4M Scoville Shinigami levels), but the tori broth holds its own in milder builds with legit depth and clingy execution. Surf and turf delivers on the shrimp and eggs but could use a steak rethink for my taste; the create-your-own is the reliable hero for personalization without gimmicks. Apps like those garlic mushrooms are sneaky addictive, and at $16–$20 bowls it's pricier than Eki or Ramen Boys but earns it with the non-stop hours and that wabi-sabi energy. Noodles stay springy, portions generous; perfect for late-night binges or group hangs.
Go for the build-your-own tori with veggie loadout, nail the spice side-eye, and let the manga walls transport you. Go crazy and get 2 eggs, you won’t regret it! Shokku just locked in as my go-to for post-Strip when everything else closes.
